Replacing the Timing Chain Tensioner - The Photos

By Rick Zotz

Back to the procedure

Tensioner location The timing chain tensioner is in the center of this image - located on the right rear of the cylinder hear, just above and ahead of the oil filter. The area is tight, but the job is suprisingly easy.
Tensioner comparison The upgraded tensioner on the right is superior to the original factory part. The oil chamber and passage are larger for greater volume and pressure.  The new gasket is a two-piece stamped design, compared to old one composed of a single stamping with a rubber insert.
Assembled tensioner This is a head-on view off the new tensioner and gasket prepared for installation. Note the orientation of the assembly and the locked plunger.
